The design of ‘Scents and Sensibility’ looks to balance the aesthetic with more practical considerations of providing a functional space for relaxation and entertainment.
The garden appeals to various senses; Initially, the sound of water draws the visitor in while the curves and circles help to move the eye around the space. Raised beds, sloping flowerbeds and long curves produce a feeling of enclosure in the garden allowing the visitor to be surrounded by plants, many of which are scented or aromatic.
Access paths are wide enough for two people to walk side by side while the broad paving edge on the lawn provides a dry route through the garden. The generous lawn area gives plenty of space for play or simply acts as a foil for the planting. The sunny patio, partly screened by plants, adds a place to relax or entertain, the curved wall acting as a backdrop to the garden. The low walls of Donegal quartzite at the entrance provide additional informal seating in the evening sunshine.
