This garden started life as a show garden at Bloom 2008. It had a woodland setting and the idea was to stimulate children’s imagination. What surprised me was the number of adults who came up to me and said that the glade brought back memories of simple childhood pleasures - looking up into trees, feeling leaves beneath your feet, watching shadows dance on the ground. This garden tries to capture all these sensations and to get in touch with the sense of mystery and enclosure you get in a woodland. It will also keep children happy as they count the fairies (there are 17 in all fashioned in copper) and watch steam coming out of the Pooka’s cave. If you buy a tree you see your initial investment grow by the year; all gardens, even small ones, should have a tree. I love the fact that, as a garden designer, I have planted many copses and woodlands for clients which will bring enjoyment to generations to come.
